Dr. Brenda Cassellius has begun her tenure as the new superintendent of Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) with visits to North Division High School and Bethune Academy on March 17, 2025. These initial visits allowed her to observe school programs firsthand.
At North Division High School, Dr. Cassellius engaged with school leaders and members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council. Her tour included geometry, art, and physical education facilities, as well as a newly renovated swimming pool. She also explored programs in construction and welding, the Wisconsin Bike Fed initiative, and the school's nursing lab and dental clinic.
During her visit to Bethune Academy, Dr. Cassellius shared lunch with students from kindergarten through grade seven. She toured the playground and early childhood wing before participating in an art class. The day concluded with a roundtable discussion involving students and staff in the library.
Dr. Cassellius plans additional visits throughout the week as she aims to harness district strengths for positive impacts on students and staff.
North Division High School is situated at 1011 W. Center St., Milwaukee, while Bethune Academy is located at 1535 N. 35th St., Milwaukee.
