U.S. Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin announced on Monday that he will donate his paychecks to The Joseph Project during the ongoing federal government shutdown. The Joseph Project is a faith-based jobs program that offers week-long job preparation training and connects participants with employers in Wisconsin.
Johnson explained his decision by saying, “Since the U.S. Constitution requires that I receive pay, even during a shutdown, I’ll be donating my paychecks to The Joseph Project. Every day the shutdown continues, the check gets a little bigger – compliments of Chuck Schumer.”
The senator has held his seat since first winning election in 2010 against Russ Feingold, securing 51.9% of the vote compared to Feingold's 47%. He was re-elected in 2016, again defeating Feingold with 50.2% of the vote to Feingold's 46.8%. In 2022, Johnson won another term by defeating Mandela Barnes with 50.4% of the vote against Barnes' 49.4%.
