MATC, Carthage College, UW-Parkside and UW-Milwaukee Receive National Recognition for Partnering for Student Success

MILWAUKEE ( Nov. 4, 2021) — Education company EAB has named Milwaukee Area Technical College, Carthage College, the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as winners of its national CONNECTEDness Award. The four institutions represent EAB’s Milwaukee-Kenosha Moon Shot for Equity Region.

Moon Shot for Equity is a national initiative that aims to close equity gaps within regional cohorts of two- and four-year colleges and universities by 2030. All participating institutions work together and with EAB to help more historically underserved students graduate from college.

EAB’s CONNECTEDness Award recognizes schools that build relationships across institution types, connecting community colleges, four-year schools, and the broader higher education community by forging connections in strategic and innovative ways to benefit students regardless of their institution.

This is the eighth year that EAB has recognized outstanding achievements by colleges and universities. Awardees are chosen from among the colleges, universities, and individuals that use Navigate, EAB’s student success management system, or Starfish, the student success platform EAB acquired earlier this year.

“Students, faculty and campus staff are still learning how to access and deliver the right combination of online and in-person support services that are critical to student success,” said EAB President of Technology, Scott Schirmeier. “The winners of EAB’s 2021 CONNECTEDness Award have gone above and beyond in their mission to keep students on track to graduate at a time when the pandemic has completely upended the traditional student support model.”

“On behalf of our four Milwaukee-Kenosha Moon Shot for Equity colleges and universities, we are grateful and proud to receive this award,” said Dr. Vicki J. Martin, MATC president. “Eliminating equity gaps in the next 10 years is an economic, social, educational and moral imperative for our students, communities and our region. We are dedicated to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to transform their lives and livelihoods through access to educational excellence.”

The awards were presented at CONNECTED21, a three-day virtual gathering of thousands of student success leaders from progressive community colleges as well as four-year colleges and universities.
